First Day on the Job?

Here are 10 tips to help you prepare!

Welcome to the team! We're excited about your first day with us. Starting a new job can be a nerve-racking experience, especially when there are plenty of unknowns surrounding your position. That's why we put this list of tips together to help you prepare. We want you to start your first day with confidence, a spirit of excellence, and a readiness to succeed. Good luck!

Spirit of Excellence

1. SHOW UP EARLY

You'll want to leave early to account for traffic and give yourself plenty of time to find the Supervisor. Some sites are large and it can take a few minutes to locate your team.

Check your job assignment and call your Supervisor if you have any problems locating the site or your Lead.

2. EAT BREAKFAST

Eat a healthy and hearty breakfast and bring a snack for later! Installing is physical labor, which means you will burn through calories. Having a good breakfast will help feed your body and mind the energy they need.

3. COME PREPARED

Be dressed in uniform, steel-toed shoes, and bring your tools!

We Before Me

4. SHOW INCENTIVE

Ask your Supervisors for Assignments.  Follow-up with questions if assignments are unfamiliar.

Be motivated and ask if you can help other members of the team.

Ask questions!  You will better understand your role by asking questions, and we will gain a better understanding of how we can improve our training.

5. BE RESPECTFUL

We are a team, and everyone on our team is valued. Treat your peers equally and with respect.  We are all here to get the job done together to the best of our ability.

Doing the Right Thing

6. BRING A PEN AND PAPER

This will allow you to take notes about the assigned job as well as write down questions you may have as the shift progresses. A pocket-sized notepad is great to stash away in your back pocket.

7. PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY

As a team member joining an organization geared towards professionalism, we keep our phones stashed away during working hours unless you are being trained on our project management application.

Innovate to Elevate

8. BE A SPONGE

You’ll receive a lot of information on day one and throughout the next several weeks. Stay focused, engaged, and soak up all the information your Supervisor and peers provide.

9. ASK FOR TRAINING

As you become acclimated, ask your Supervisor for direction to our training videos and how to work your way into a training program that will (with some hard work and motivation) allow you to grow within our company.

Grace Through Generosity

10. RECAP AT THE END OF THE DAY

Talk to your Supervisor at the end of your first day.  Ask for constructive criticism. Care and respect each individual as you want to be cared for and respected. This grace will allow you to learn, grow and reach your goals as you help the team achieve the project's objectives.
